Several foundings in October

In October 2016 a total of 3’176 companies entered the the commercial register of Switzerland.  Compared with September this represents an increase of 2.55%.  However, the current absolute founding figures could not connect to the high result from last year. Overall, the number of start-ups fell by 2.64% compared to October 2015. This corresponds to an absolute decline of 86 new entries in the commercial register.

West Switzerland and Tessin with growth

The Western part and Ticino could both achieve a good growth. In fact there is an increase of 4.41% compared to last year. This strong growth is mainly driven due to the cantons of Vaud (+ 11.56%), Geneva (13.79%) and Freiburg (+ 16.67%). The market share of Western Switzerland is 29.82% of all startups. This is a good result, considering that Western Switzerland only has a population share of 25.85%.

The German-speaking part has experienced a decline of 6.50%. The reasons are difficult to explain because all cantons have different rules and regulations. A growth in new registrations mainly Aargau (+ 3.01%), Zurich (+ 4.70%) and Thurgau (+ 4.55%) could record. Poor growth levels were recorded by Bern (-10.71%), Basel-Stadt (-16.82%) and Lucerne (-13.58%).
