March Foundation Report: Strong Growth Compared to Previous Year

In March 2025, a total of 4,907 new companies were founded in Switzerland. This represents an increase of 1.89% compared to February. Compared to March 2024, there is a significant rise of 12.83%.

Positive Dynamics in Zurich

Zurich shows a pleasing development. The canton recorded 893 new companies in March, an increase of 1.71% compared to the previous month. On an annual basis, the number of foundations even rose by 16.88%.

Eastern Switzerland also showed positive development. 598 new companies were registered there, which is 13.47% more than in February and 9.12% more than in March of the previous year. Most of the foundations took place in the canton of St. Gallen, with a total of 265 entries.

Northwestern Switzerland also followed the positive trend. A total of 1,084 new commercial register entries were recorded. Compared to February, this represents an increase of 2.55%. Compared to the previous year, the increase is 7.75%.

Stable Growth in French-speaking Switzerland

The dynamics of founding remain stable in French-speaking Switzerland. In March, 1,402 new companies were founded there. Compared to February, this is a slight increase of 0.21%. The annual growth is significantly stronger, at 12.88%. Most entries were in the canton of Vaud with 507 new companies. Compared to the previous year, this represents a growth of 9.27%, and a monthly increase of 5.63%.

Mixed Development in Central Switzerland and Ticino

Central Switzerland could not quite match the level of the previous month. A total of 733 new companies were registered, which represents a decline of 2.66% compared to February. However, on a yearly basis, there is a clearly positive development with a plus of 28.37%. Particularly striking is the canton of Zug, which recorded an increase of 34.44% compared to March of the previous year with 324 foundations.
In Ticino, on the other hand, a declining trend is evident. 197 new companies were founded there. Compared to February, this represents a decrease of 2.48%. Compared to the previous year, the decline is 9.63%.

Outlook

With 4,907 new foundations, March 2025 is a strong month for Swiss entrepreneurship. The year-on-year increase of 12.83% confirms the positive trend at the beginning of spring. However, a slight decline is expected for April. In previous years, April often saw a decrease due to holidays and spring vacations, which can slow down founding activity.
