Newly founded companies in Switzerland (August 2025): Expected Decline in Midsummer

August saw a total of 3,856 new companies. This figure is 22.69% below July’s level but 8.38% higher than last year’s result.

Romandie in the Lead

With 1,116 new companies, Romandie once again tops the ranking. Compared to July, this represents a decline of 24.54%, but in a year-on-year comparison a significant increase of 10.82%. The canton of Vaud remains the leader with 362 new entries, 6.16% more than in August 2024.

Zurich in Second Place

The Zurich region recorded 795 new businesses. This represents a decrease of 13.59% compared to July but an increase of 11.66% compared to last year. This confirms the ongoing economic dynamism in Switzerland’s largest economic region.

Stronger than Last Year

Ticino developed particularly positively. Although the number of new businesses (153 entries) was 33.19% below July’s level, the year-on-year comparison shows a strong increase of 18.60%.

Central Switzerland also performed well. It recorded 577 new companies, 23.47% fewer than in July but 10.96% more than in August 2024. With 263 new registrations, Zug recorded the highest number of entries in the region.

Northwestern Switzerland followed this trend. With 782 new companies, the region registered a decline of 24.59% compared to July but an increase of 7.27% year-on-year.

Eastern Switzerland Lagging Behind

A different picture emerges in Eastern Switzerland. With 433 new companies, the region recorded not only a 6.07% decline compared to last year but also a 23.90% decrease compared to the previous month.

Outlook

The decline in August corresponds to the usual seasonal pattern. Compared to last year, however, there is an increase of 8.38%, underlining the stability of startup activity. A slight increase in business registrations is expected for September.
