A particularly strong June for company formations

In June 2026, a total of 5,542 new companies were registered in the Swiss Commercial Register. This represents an 18.0% increase compared to June 2025 (4,697 new companies). Following a more moderate May, June marked a clear acceleration in entrepreneurial activity, confirming the continued strength of Switzerland's business formation landscape.

One of the most striking aspects of the results is that every major region recorded more company formations than in the same month of the previous year. Growth was therefore broadly distributed across the country rather than being driven by only a few individual regions.

French-speaking Switzerland remains the country's leading region

With 1,489 new companies, French-speaking Switzerland once again remained the country's largest business formation region. Compared to June 2025, this represents an increase of 16.7%.

The strongest growth was recorded in Jura (+58.1%), Valais (+24.6%), and the canton of Vaud (+23.8%). Geneva (+7.6%), Neuchâtel (+11.0%), and Fribourg (+4.9%) also exceeded last year's figures and contributed to the region's strong overall performance.

Northwestern Switzerland continues its positive momentum

Northwestern Switzerland also delivered an excellent result. With 1,218 new companies, the region recorded 18.7% more company formations than in June 2025.

All cantons posted positive growth. The largest increases were seen in Solothurn (+35.3%), Basel-Landschaft (+24.6%), and Aargau (+23.3%). Bern (+13.0%) and Basel-Stadt (+6.0%) also recorded more new businesses than a year earlier.

A mixed picture in Eastern Switzerland

In Eastern Switzerland, 711 new companies were founded, representing growth of 7.2% compared to June 2025.

While Graubünden (+34.4%), Glarus (+43.5%), and particularly St. Gallen (+17.3%) achieved strong growth, Thurgau (-22.1%) and Appenzell Innerrhoden (-64.7%) declined compared to the previous year, partly offsetting the region's overall increase.

Central Switzerland posts strong growth

Central Switzerland registered 799 new companies, representing an increase of 17.7% compared to June 2025.

The strongest relative growth was recorded in Nidwalden (+90.5%), although from a relatively small base. Schwyz (+27.2%), Lucerne (+19.5%), Uri (+17.7%), and Zug (+9.8%) also contributed positively, while Obwalden (-12.5%) was the only canton in the region to remain below last year's level.

Zurich records above-average growth

The Zurich region recorded 1,076 new company formations, representing 22.3% more than in June 2025.

Zurich therefore ranks among the regions with the strongest absolute growth and once again confirms its role as Switzerland's leading economic hub.

Ticino records the strongest growth

Ticino posted the highest growth rate of all major regions. With 249 new company formations, the region recorded an increase of 43.9% compared to June 2025.

This outstanding result confirms the positive momentum observed over recent months and makes Ticino one of Switzerland's strongest-performing regions in June.

Conclusion

June 2026 proved to be an exceptionally strong month for company formations in Switzerland. With 5,542 new companies, the country significantly exceeded the previous year's level, while all major regions recorded year-on-year growth.

Ticino, the Zurich region, Northwestern Switzerland, and French-speaking Switzerland stood out in particular, all recording substantial increases compared to June 2025. Overall, June confirms the resilience of Switzerland's entrepreneurial environment and provides an excellent conclusion to the first half of 2026.
